Sean Tenner

Experienced Campaign Strategist

About

The president of KNI Communications, Sean Tenner has dedicated his career to supporting individuals and organizations working in the public interest. After graduating cum laude from Georgetown University in 1998, Sean Tenner became a researcher for People for the American Way, where his work focused on protecting public school funding for schools throughout the nation. From 1999 to 2001, he held the title of program specialist of the Illinois House of Representatives. In this position, he developed skills that would become vital throughout his career, including those involving coalition-building, managing the press, community outreach, and legislative strategy.

For the next six years, Sean Tenner worked as a senior consultant at M+R Strategic Services. He worked with many of the leading public health, environmental, and human rights organizations in the US. Among his successes, he assisted in the development of grassroots advocacy for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a push which raised millions in funds for breast cancer screenings.

Sean Tenner's next efforts centered on two specific campaigns over the following two years, State Representative Greg Harris's campaign for civil unions in Illinois and Obama for America. For the former, he helped build a coalition of activists, community leaders, and organizations across Illinois. As the director of the Illinois to Iowa Program for Obama for America, he organized more than 4,000 volunteers who traveled from Illinois to Iowa, a state president Barack Obama ultimately won by almost percentage 10 points.
